A devoted Bradford City fan has raised £5,000 to help his club pay the transfer fee of one of their players.

Jeremy White, a long-standing City fan who lives in Thirsk, decided to help the club following a Football League tribunal decision that City should pay Guiseley FC £7,500 for striker James Hanson.

He designed and created enamel fixture badges which he sold at games. He has been helped by Mike Harrison, of the City Gent fanzine.

Mr White said: “This season’s badges include the date of the match, a depiction of City’s home shirt, the opponent’s crest, attendance, man of the match and final score. Last season 100 sets sold out quickly.

"I decided it would be appropriate to donate all the profits from the badges to Bradford City. I’d like to thank all the subscribers for their support.”

Also, Mr White is selling a special edition lapel badge which he hopes will raise £4,000 for the City’s £100,000 Burns Unit Appeal.

These badges will be on sale in the club shop from 1.30pm to 2.50pm, before tomorrow’s home game against Darlington, and after the match. Three sets will be available at half time in the 1911 Club, executive boxes, in the Midland Road stand and the Carlsberg Kop.

Dave Baldwin, City’s operations director, offered his thanks for a fantastic effort.

Mike Harrison will be selling a 60-page Stuart McCall edition of City Gent that includes an interview with City’s former manager.

Mr Harrison said: “He wanted to thank the fans who had supported him and clear up one or two things. He said he had just £600 left in his budget to get a goalkeeper at the start of the season.”
