Sporting stars are supporting Bradford’s 10k run for Epilepsy Action.

Bradford Bulls players joined the Epilepsy Action team in Centenary Square yesterday, encouraging people to sign up to the road race, which will be on Sunday, March 21.

Second-row Steve Menzies, who joined team mates Heath L’Estrange, Matt Orford, Adam O’Brien, Glenn Hall and Brett Kearney, in showing support for the charity run, said: “The Epilepsy Action Bradford 10k is a fantastic event for Bradford. We hope people across the city will get behind the event and help raise funds for this important cause.”

Bradford Councillor Anne Hawkes-worth was also in the city centre yesterday lending her support to the charity.

The run will begin in Centenary Square at 9am. The route, which begins and ends in Centenary Square, and heads down Canal Road towards Frizinghall and back, is mostly flat and will be closed to all traffic.

Organisers say it is a really good course for first-time runners and elite runners hoping to achieve personal best times.

Katie Stocks, fundraising officer at Yeadon-based Epilepsy Action, said: “It’s fantastic that the Bradford Bulls are supporting the Epilepsy Action Bradford 10k again this year.

“We hope as many people as possible will sign up to take part. It’s a great way to get fit and healthy, while raising vital funds to help support people with epilepsy.”

Last year the event raised over £25,000 for the charity and this year entry has been expanded to allow 2,000 runners to take part.

There are prizes to be won for males and females placed first, second and third, and for winners of the veterans’ categories.

Free T-shirts will be given to everyone who completes the race, which is supported by the Telegraph & Argus, Bradford Council’s B-Active campaign, Sovereign Health Care, Fitness First and the Airedale Athletics squad.

Entry costs £16, or £14 for runners affiliated to a UK athletics running club.

To sign up, fill out the form below, visit epilepsy.org.uk or phone (0113) 2108800.

The closing date for entries is Sunday, March 14.
