A printing company has boosted its investment over the past two years to £5 million by installing equipment which features the first scanning technology of its kind in the UK.
Nampak Healthcare, in Leeds Road, Idle, Bradford, prints cartons and patient information leaflets for the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries.
The firm’s latest investment is a £1 million Komori system which improves quality control by enabling monitoring through an inspection camera as cartons are being printed.
It will be used on a press which was installed last year along with a straight line glue machine.
The programme also included refurbishment of the Bradford factory and offices.
The firm, now part of a South African group, says the takeover provided access to new customers.
UK regional director Gerard Harford said: “Becoming part of the global Nampak Group has brought the business a number of significant benefits. Not only have we acquired extra business and created 30 new jobs, it has also enabled investment in state-of-the-art technology, putting us at the very forefront of our marketplace.”
Since it joined the Nampak Group in 2008, the former Storey Evans business has seen its turnover rise from £14 million to £19 million, and created 30 new jobs, taking the workforce in Bradford to 210.
The group, which manufactures a range of packaging products, operates in 17 countries in Africa and Europe, employs 20,000 staff, exports to 60 countries and has an annual turnover of £1 billion.
Steve Turner, of Komori UK, said: “Nampak Healthcare is a dynamic business operating in a sector which demands consistent top quality and service.”
The Storey Evans company was founded in Leeds in 1898.
In 2006 it was sold by the Storey family to Northern Irish printing firm MSO Group and then acquired by Nampak in 2008.
