Dozens of varieties of potatoes were available at a popular show.
Hundreds of organic growers and vegetable enthusiasts turned up to peruse the goods at the West Yorkshire Organic Group Potato Day at Shipley College, Saltaire, on Saturday.
Group member John Dallas said: “This is the group’s 11th seed potato day. We had 42 varieties this year, which allows local growers, as well as gardeners and allotment keepers, to have more variety. When we opened there were 75 queuing and in two and a half hours we had well over half of the potatoes sold.”
The most popular variety was the Sarpo Mira, a Hungarian variety grown in Scotland and Wales. Mr Dallas said: “It’s one of the most resistant potatoes in Europe.”
