A banned driver collided head-on with a car while fleeing the police at speeds of up to 84mph in a 30mph zone, a Court heard today.
Sheraz Afzal sped away from officers who spotted him speeding in a Volkswagen Passat.
Bradford Crown Court heard that Afzal jumped a red light, weaved in and out of traffic and went the wrong way round a roundabout.
He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving on August 24 last year, driving while disqualified, failing to stop after an accident and possessing cocaine.
Afzal, of Mansfield Crescent, Nelson, Lancashire, was in breach of a suspended jail sentence for dangerous driving imposed at Burnley Crown Court.
Prosecutor Paul Nicholson said police pursued Afzal along Clayton Road, Bradford, at up to 84mph.
He hit an oncoming car, forcing it into a wall and causing the driver whiplash injury.
When Afzal pulled up on Thornton Road, he had a wrap of cocaine on him.
The court heard that Afzal, a garage worker, had spent more than five months in custody awaiting sentence.
The judge, Recorder David Kelly, said if Afzal did not mend his ways it was only a matter of time before he killed someone.
Afzal was jailed for 15 months, plus 20 weeks of the suspended prison term. He was banned from driving for 12 months.
