Hitchcock meets hilarious in the acclaimed production of classic thriller The 39 Steps, which runs at the Alhambra from Monday to next Saturday. Described as blissfully funny, the show follows the adventures of hero Richard Hannay – complete with stiff upper lip and pencil moustache. With a cast of four (pictured) playing a multitude of roles, this is a great way to lift the winter gloom.
If you have clothes that don’t fit anymore, take them down to the HiFi Club in Leeds next Saturday, between 2.30pm and 5.30pm, where you can swap them and come away with a new outfit. Drop off your clothes, get your vouchers and have a rummage, then swap till you drop! Admission is just £2. There will also be workshop stations around to help with clothes alterations.
Visit Saltaire’s local produce market next Saturday which boasts beautiful home baking, irresistible hog roast sandwiches, delicious cheese and great-tasting dairy produce, fresh fish, succulent meats and many other products to tempt you back more than once. The market is on from 9am to 3pm at the Caroline Street car park.
Over the half-term why not visit the Thackray Museum in Leeds and take part in some Awesome Organs family activities? Find out what the different organs in your body do, and how they all work together to keep your body functioning. You can get creative with organ-themed drawing activities and learn some fascinating facts about your insides. Drop-in activities are running from noon to 4pm today and tomorrow, and also Tuesday and Thursday and activities are free with usual admission.
And now for something completely different. An evening of mime with one of Britain’s most original and imaginative white-faced mime artist, Yorkshire-based Rowan Tolley, inspired by Chaplin, Keaton, Tati and Beckett. A Fistful Of Characters at Bradford City Hall is a shrewd and compassionate look at real-life characters in real -life situations. Performed with stunning accuracy, this one-man show is witty, moving and highly amusing. The show, at 7.30pm, will be followed by a cheese and wine supper. Tickets for the event next Friday are £15.
‘Make and Take’ fabulous picture frames to display your favourite photographs at the National Coal Mining Museum in Wakefield. The weekday art and craft activities are linked to the current photographic exhibition Northern Soul. The workshops run from Monday to Friday, 1pm until 4pm. There will also be storytelling at 11am, 12pm, 1pm and 2pm. Plus Maurice the Miner will be on site, welcoming visitors to the Museum.
Have fun creating larger-than-life artwork inspired by the patterns in Peter Randall-Page’s sculptures at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, West Bretton, Wakefield. The half-term family workshop sessions run from Tuesday to Thursday at 10.30am and 1.30pm, and the cost is £1 per person.
