A woman member of an armed gang that robbed a Bradford jeweller’s shop has been jailed for three years.
Rebecca Haigh, 27, held open the door at S&S Jeweller’s, on Leeds Road, for three masked men to burst in, a Court heard.
They escaped with £1,000 of gold rings in the smash and grab raid on Saturday, October 17.
Two of the gang, believed to be from London, are still being hunted. The court heard that a local man had been arrested but not charged.
One man jumped the counter and grabbed Sajid Mahmood, who runs the Asian gold shop with his brother, Majid.
As they struggled, a second man smashed the counter with a large builder’s hammer and a third seized a tray of gold rings.
The court was told that Haigh was the only member of the gang to be sentenced.
The mother-of-one had posed as a customer to trick Sajid Mahmood into releasing the shop’s door lock, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.
After she pressed the buzzer, she held the door open and hung on to it until two of the robbers escaped. A third was trapped in the shop when it re-locked.
Prosecutor Dave MacKay said Majid Mahmood grabbed the imprisoned robber but let go when the man’s accomplices smashed the shop window from the outside to free him.
The three men fled in an old white BMW. Haigh told police she went to a nearby pub.
Haigh, of Broadstone Way, Holme Wood, pleaded guilty to the robbery.
Mr MacKay said officers were considering a Crimewatch TV appeal to help to trace the men who were believed to have fled to London. The court heard that Sajid and Majid Mahmood were traumatised by the robbery and feared another armed raid.
Haigh’s barrister, Emma Downing, said she got in with the wrong company and was intimidated into joining the gang. She was told what to do on the way and did not see a weapon until they were outside the shop.
It was an isolated offence and totally out of character.
The judge, Recorder Mark Bury, accepted that the two London men came to Haigh’s door but said she made a conscious decision to take part in the robbery.
After the case, Detective Inspector Steve Snow, of Bradford South CID, launched a fresh appeal to catch the London men.
He said: “Detectives are still pursuing lines of enquiry for two suspects who have connections with the London area.”
He appealed to anyone with any information to come forward by calling Bradford South CID on (01274) 376575.
