Marilyn Kulpinski (nee Squires) e-mails from Bucasia, Queensland, Australia: I'm trying to trace my family history and recently ordered my grandparents marriage certificate from Births, Deaths and Marriages in the UK.
William Squires and Mary Ellen O'Neill were married at St Anne's Church, Guy and Edward Street in the district of Bradford, County of Bradford, on 8 July 1933.
William was living at 11 Broad Street Dudley Hill at the time and Mary at 17 Railway Road Dudley Hill.
William, who I believe was an only child, was noted as a coal miner on the certificate and his father, also named William, was noted as deceased and also as a coal miner.
Mary is noted as a "Maid at Club" and her father is noted as John O'Neill and a foreman of steel works. Mary had two brothers, Joseph and Dennis, though I'm unsure if they were older or younger than her.
Uncle Jo was actually a Catholic Priest who I believe did a lot of work for the poor.
I was hoping to get their birthdates from the marriage certificate but unfortunately it only states that they were 26 and 19 years respectively at the time.
My father, Terence, was their only child and he moved to Australia in 1950 when he was 17.
I'm finding it extremely difficult to trace their history and was hoping to contact the church for more details as it's likely they would have their actual birth dates on the registry.
I've searched the Bradford phone book online and a multitude of other sites but can't find any reference to the church. I don't know if it even still exists or if the church is now being used for some other purpose.
I've been using an online ancestry searching tool which has abundant links to census details etc. to also try and find out more information, all to no avail.
Perhaps someone in the area knows something of its history. If they do, I’d love to hear from them. I can be contacted via e-mail at happymum_1@hotmail.com
