A man has admitted failing to seek veterinary treatment for three dogs which were seized by the RSPCA during a probe into dog fighting.

Mohammed Mir, 29, of Lower Westfield Road, Manningham, Bradford, also pleaded guilty to failing to provide a suitable living environment for the two bull terriers, Japanese akita and another bull terrier when he appeared before Bradford magistrates today.

Prosecuting on behalf of the RSPCA, Nigel Monaghan said one of the terriers had a severe ear infection while another had an open infected wound on its muzzle and old scarring to its face. The Japanese Akita had an infected puncture wound to its muzzle and old scars on its body.

The animals were found at St Augustine’s Terrace, Undercliffe, in July last year by RSPCA officers.

Mitigating for Mir, Upkar Bahia said his client had been ill and spent time in hospital shortly before the animals were found. Mr Bahia said: “He accepts his responsibilities and inadequacies in looking after these dogs.”

Amanda Russet, 28, of Fenby Avenue, Cutler Heights, the owner of the Japanese Akita, pleaded not guilty to failing to seek veterinary treatment for the dog and provide it with a suitable living environment.

Both defendants were granted unconditional bail to appear before magistrates to be sentenced on March 4.
