Young choral singers have hit the right note by winning Bradford Theatres’ first school choir contest.

The S Club choir at Sandal Primary School, Baildon, won the BD1 LIVE Goes Choral event at St George’s Hall. Clayton Primary came second and Thackley Primary was third.

Schools from across the district competed and the finalists did workshops with the London Community Gospel Choir, which performed at the contest.

S Club performed Roller Ghoster and A Different Beat, incorporating dance into their performances.

Sandal’s choir director Jan Millard said: “We’re delighted. As the winning choir, the children sang Take That’s Rule the World with the London Community Gospel Choir, and nine-year-old Ellie Gurney sang a solo.

“They won a trophy and will be spending time in a Bradford recording studio, and performing as guest singers with the Bradford Festival Choral Society.”

Adam Renton, Bradford Theatres general manager, said it was a wonderful event, and possibly the first of many.
