Bradford Council is considering modifications to a busy roundabout proposed by a frustrated motorist.
Daily hour-long commutes from Low Moor, Bradford, to Cross Hills, Keighley, led John Ciesielski, 50, to take on the one-man battle to get yellow box junctions painted on Cottingley roundabout, near the Ramada Jarvis Hotel, for traffic entering from Saltaire.
Mr Ciesielski has been in e-mail contact with Bradford Council’s Highways Department since January 2009 and has debated the issue with the Council’s principal engineer on a radio show.
At one stage, an existing box junction on the opposite side of the roundabout was repainted after the Council say they “misinterpreted” Mr Ciesielski’s request.
Mr Ciesielski, who describes himself as a “frustrated motorist”, said: “All I wanted was two little yellow box junctions. Traffic just sits on that roundabout and since Ireland Bridge closed it’s been horrendous.”
Traffic in the area has been a cause of consternation among commuters and traders for several years, and Bradford Council has now agreed to consider Mr Ciesielski’s suggestions.
Simon D’Vali, the Council’s principal engineer, said: “We will consider the proposal John has offered and if it is of benefit to motorists and traffic in general, we will programme the work in.”
