Teachers are being invited to a special day of training to learn about the construction of Bradford’s City Park in the hope they can encourage their students to get involved.
The six-acre £24.4 million park will contain the largest city centre water feature in the country when the mirror pool is complete and work is already taking place on site.
The day of training, which will take place on Monday, February 22, has been organised by Bradford Council and Education Bradford. Teachers and support assistants will spend the day meeting the builders, engineers and architects working on the scheme, taking a tour of the city, and will receive an information pack to take back to their school.
Councillor Adrian Naylor, the Council’s executive member for regeneration and economy, said: “The education projects we’re currently running have been so successful and truly enjoyed by the students that we wanted to open this out to all schools in the district.
“The City Park and regeneration provides so many opportunities for learning – linking with the history of the city, the geo-graphy of district and allowing the students to be creative – showing what they want for their city through English, art and design. The options for teachers are endless and the City Park can be related to all key stage areas.
“It’s also important for students, where possible, to visit the city, see the building in action and meet some of the professionals involved. We need to get them supporting and understanding the regeneration and spreading the message that Bradford’s changing.”
The City Park Ambassadors project, which was launched in November, is already working with 30 students from Titus Salt School and Challenge College through the Schools Linking Network and City of Film.
The students are learning about the regeneration and history of the city, filming and interview techniques and are visiting the National Media Museum, the Telegraph & Argus and Bradford Industrial Museum.
The students are producing artwork, films, literature and articles and will host a ceremony in June to celebrate their work and launch their City Park film.
