An elderly man who was found dead at the scene of a fire at his home died of natural causes, a post-mortem has revealed.
The examination, at Airedale General Hospital, Steeton, revealed the 83-year-old’s death was not as a result of the fire at his home in Coronation Way, Keighley.
A spokesman for the Bradford Coroner said: “A post-mortem carried out showed he had collapsed and died.”
The man’s identity is not being disclosed until relatives have been informed.
Firefighters were called to the man’s home at about 4.30pm yesterday when the smoke alarm linked to the automatic Care Line system was triggered.
Two fire crews from Keighley and one from Bingley attended the blaze.
A West Yorkshire fire service spokesman said: “They forced an entry and brought the elderly man out from the kitchen where he was found and attempted to resuscitate him without success.
“There was a fire in a pan on the cooker, which fire investigators believe was the cause. The outbreak is not being treated as suspicious.”
An Airedale and North Bradford Police spokesman said the blaze was being investigated but it was not being treated as suspicious.
Detective Inspector John Mountain, of Airedale and North Bradford CID, said there was no-one else in the bungalow when the emergency services arrived.
Fire officers were out visiting homes in the area today, speaking to residents about fire safety and fitting smoke alarms.
