Two brothers who are members of a popular Bradford soul band will next month play a tribute concert in honour of their “beautiful and lovely” mum.
Shirley Dumican, of Lower Grange, died peacefully on March 26 last year, aged 62 in Bradford’s Marie Curie Hospice, after an illness.
Now, a year to the day of her death her sons Craig and Jason Joseph, along with bandmate Anthony Raymond, will perform as The Gillettes at Manningham Ward Labour Club from 7.30pm to late with all proceeds going to the Marie Curie Hospice in Bradford.
All her four children, including Varone and Jake, and six grandchildren – Jordan, Logan, Thomas, Nial, Leah and Quade – will attend the gig.
Craig, of Gilstead Lane, Bingley, said: “This is to honour our beautiful and lovely mum who was taken away from us so suddenly and which left a huge gap in all our lives.
“We want to show all of mum’s grandchildren just how important and loved she will always be and keep their grandma in their lives.”
The Gillettes formed 15 years ago and have worked throughout the UK, specialising in the sounds of legendary soul and Motown stars such as The Temptations, The Drifters, The Four Tops, Sam Cooke and James Brown.
Tickets for the tribute concert have been on sale for £5 and are now sold out. On the night entry will be £10 on the door.
The concert will also feature a raffle and there will be a bucket collection to ensure as much money as possible is made for the Bradford Marie Curie hospice.
Craig thanked Jason’s partner, Carla Hanson, for her hard work helping to organise the show and added: “We would like to make this an annual event and look at getting a bigger venue next year – we hope that it can grow and grow.”
