A bride-to-be fears she will be £1,000 out of pocket after her wedding photographer has left her in the dark.

Mystery now surrounds the demise of Oh Wow Photography, in Rectory Row, Keighley, owned by well-known photographer David Prothero.

This week a number of clients contacted the Keighley News for help after failing to find Mr Prothero.

Jemma Lister, of Mannville Grove, paid £1,000 up front for a full wedding package with the firm after being impressed by photographs taken of her daughters Jessica, seven, and Reese, one.

She said: "I've always been really happy with David's work. I felt he was established and so I trusted him." She added: "I paid a £400 deposit, then about three months ago I paid it all off because I just wanted to settle it so I could put a tick against it on my list."

But on Tuesday she heard through a friend that Oh Wow had closed down.

Since then Jemma's phone calls to the shop have been met with no response and a visit to the studio revealed a deserted room.

Jemma, a beauty therapist, said she and partner Adam Lilley had not been contacted by Mr Prothero.

Companies House had no record of the company and a spokesman for trading standards suggested the only way for Jemma to recoup her losses was to wait and see if the firm went into liquidation.

The 23-year-old, who is due to marry Adam at Oakwood Hall, in Bingley, on July 1, said: "The worrying thing is if I hadn't found out about this second hand I would have expected him to turn up that day. How bad would that have been?"

"I'm really upset. I don't even know which way to turn or who I need to approach. It's something I really don't need so close to my wedding."

The couple have hired another photographer to snap their big day.

Another couple, due to marry at All Saints Church in two weeks, had also been left £100 down.

Decorator Paul Squires, of Wall Street, Keighley, left a 24-photo reel of film with Oh Wow Photography to be developed.

But on returning to the shop a few days later he found it closed. Despite numerous return visits to the studio the doors remained closed and Paul could get no response from the business telephone. Now he is worried he might never get his pictures back. Paul said: "The film had pictures of me taking part in a sponsored walk for a missionary charity. I wanted to put them in an album."

Oh Wow Photography began life as David Prothero Photography, based in Chapel Lane, Keighley. The firm moved to bigger premises in Rectory Row to accommodate new digital photographic printing equipment.

This week the Keighley News made numerous attempts to contact Mr Prothero without success. He failed to return messages left on a telephone answering machine.
