FORMER Silsden Playing Field bowler and ex-Yorkshire star, Chris Slater, turned the tables on his old team mates.

Chris, who now plays for Wales, picked up a win for his now home side against the Yorkshire ABA county team at Colwyn Bay. However, Yorkshire whitewashed Wales in the home leg at Newsome, sadly without any local representatives in the team.

Newsome is also the venue for the Skipton Inter-District team in the revamped Yorkshire ABA One Day event on Sunday. The round-robin event starts at 10am with the local side, captained by Jamie Cunningham, grouped with the East Coast and West Riding.

In the Veterans Inter-District competition the locals' form continued to see-saw as they suffered a narrow defeat by Leeds. This time the home team were all at sea despite a good win by Gordon Whitham of Silsden PF. The away squad won in Leeds and the next match is against Wakefield on July 17.

Competition bowling returns to the Valley League on Sunday with the league's Handicap Doubles at Broughton Road, sponsored by G Moore and Co Insurance Specialists of Cross Roads. The event starts at 9.30.

The Federation Veterans team were on new territory when they travelled to Fox Lane, Preston, in the Over-65 round robin event when they were thrashed twice by South Lakes and Fylde. No doubt they will be looking forward to their next trip.

The Rycroft Trophy and Craven Classic events continue, but there has been no further local successes to report. The next round of the Classic is on June 17 with the Rycroft Trophy continuing on June 26.

Yorkshire Champion Stephen Pickles starts the defence of his title in the prelims at Oxenhope tonight (Friday) and the Hebden Bridge Merit is on Sunday at Luddendenfoot.

Yorkshire and Henry Taylor Cup action continues on Saturday with local hopes resting on Cross Roads and Skipton Devon. Round Three is on June 25.

Keighley A continue to lead Division One of the Skipton League with recent 11-1 and 10-2 victories to keep them ahead of Devon A.

Lund Park A are walking away with Division Two ahead of Cononley B and Silsden B.
