A Wyke-based internet travel company is pledging to quadruple in size after being bought out by the Global Travel Group in a multi-million pound deal.

Sunmaster, which has grown from a small local telesales agent when it was formed in 1992 and now employs 29 staff, has been bought out by the large Chester-based organisation.

Global was set up in 1993 with the specific purpose of uniting independent travel agents and providing them with the capability to compete with the larger multiple groups.

Sunmaster became part of the organisation eight years ago but has now been formally acquired by Global, which employs 200 staff. Global declined to reveal the exact sum paid for the Bradford business.

Sunmaster, which derives 97 per cent of its sales from online bookings, has built its internet reputation via is unique icelolly.com brand. The website provides a comprehensive and fast search engine for holidaymakers looking to book a last-minute holiday.

Global said the acquisition was a strategic part of its two-year plan to protect its members from falling commissions and direct selling in the travel industry.

Global said the deal added guaranteed distribution for tour operator partners as well as providing opportunities for further expansion.

Sunmaster uses unique software and employs a team of dedicated search engine and web optimisation specialists to complement Global's operations.

Global announced that Adrian Walton would continue as managing director of Sunmaster.

"I was delighted when Global appro-ached me," said Mr Walton. "We have ambitious plans for our online brands to move forward and I have 100 per cent faith in our mutual capabilities and I am looking forward to working closely with the group to build on our successes to date."

Global said that a recent succession of innovations would enable the group to continue to look at strong businesses which fitted in with its distribution and supply systems.
