For years Queensbury folk have had to endure the old joke about the climate in their village being so extreme that "it snows up there in June".

Now, thanks to the vision of one local resident, that famous saying looks set to be turned to their advantage.

The adage is one of the addresses for a new website that has been set up to allow people from the village to find out what is happening locally at the click of a mouse.

The website is the brainchild of Mark Neale, former chairman of the Bradford City Supporters' Club, who thought it would be a great way to help improve the community spirit of the village. Mr Neale said: "I moved here to Queensbury seven years ago after living in Heaton for years. During that time I tried to do a lot for my community and have long thought about what I could do around Queensbury.

"A few weeks ago I came up with the idea of a website that would allow everyone to find out what was happening. I mentioned it to Councillor Michael Walls who said he thought it was a good idea.

"The title of the website comes from something people always take the mickey out of Queensbury for - our weather. If you type it into Google, our site is the first thing it brings up."

To design the site, Mark enlisted the help of his friend, Michael Wood, who City fans may recognise as the man behind the Bantams fan site www.boyfrombrazil.co.uk.

The new site is designed to serve as a one-stop shop for people living in the area, and contains advice on local community groups, sports clubs and youth organisations, as well as a special section on local history. Mr Neale said: "Queensbury has changed a lot as a place in the past few years with a lot of new houses and people having moved here which I think may have diluted some of the old village spirit because many of them do not know about what is going on here.

"Hopefully by publicising what happens throughout the village we'll be able to bring people together."

Designer Michael Wood, said: "More will be getting added and we hope to develop it gradually. Hopefully it can become a good community resource for the area."
