With resurgent Widnes the first team to visit Odsal on Sunday following the embarrassing 66-4 hammering by St Helens, dwelling on the past is a luxury the Bulls cannot afford, insists prop Stuart Fielden.

Before the Saints defeat, the Great Britain international had described the unpredictable Bulls as "Jekyll and Hyde on a rollercoaster".

It turned out that description did not go far enough in describing the schizophrenic nature of the club's Super League X campaign.

"I said last week that we used to be Jekyll and Hyde - against Saints neither of them turned up," said Fielden.

That no-show had left the side's confidence at its lowest ebb, but Sunday's

victory over Huddersfield has helped put things in perspective.

"I don't think I've seen us as emotional before a game for a very long time because we felt hurt by the things that were said," revealed Fielden.

Bulls fans were clearly stung by the record mauling by Saints - but no-one felt more pain than the players, insisted Fielden.

"We were terribly

low. There were people running around saying 'don't panic' and going mad about things.

"It was one loss. It was a disgrace but there is no-one who feels it more than

the players.

"The point is that we are out there. I know we have great fans who pay to watch us, but they can go home cursing and then just

forget about it. We have got all week to have sleepless nights.

"We deserved it after that but we have moved on and got a little bit better and we'll need to do that again this week because Widnes are no easy go."

Fielden compared the defeat to the thrashing Great Britain copped at the hands of Australia in the Tri Nations final and said such results were sure to happen again in the modern game.

"It is something that will live with me for a long time, but I have been hammered before and I am sure it will happen again," he said.

"It is just one of those things. You have to get past it. The biggest thing for us is not getting over the Saints defeat, but

getting over the victory at Huddersfield and putting a big performance in this week.

"At the moment we seem to be playing well one week and then terrible the next week. You can't do that if you want to reach the Grand Final.

"We'll try to use Sunday's win as yet another springboard to knocking up the wins and being consistent.

"Huddersfield are by far one of the best teams in Super League. They gave us a tough test but we showed our resolve and our character. We fired up and got stuck in."
