The leader of the British National Party was yesterday committed to Leeds Crown Court on race-hate charges.

Nick Griffin, 46, will appear before the court on July 21, accused of four counts of using words or behaviour intended or likely to stir up racial hatred.

Griffin, of Llanerfyl, Powys, Wales, was remanded on unconditional bail when he appeared at Leeds Magistrates Court yesterday.

Griffin was charged by West Yorkshire Police in April, following a long-running investigation into the BBC documentary The Secret Agent, which secretly filmed BNP activists in Keighley. The charges relate to two separate incidents on January 19 and May 5, 2004, which were recorded during the documentary.
