A Bradford schoolgirl is looking forward to following in her brother’s footsteps by seeing her name in print after a poem she wrote was selected to be published.

Lucy Newell, eight, wrote the poem, called Rocket, at Wellington Primary School, Dudley Hill Road, Eccleshill.

Proud mum Corrina Newell, of Idle, Bradford, said: “Lucy is very proud of herself for writing such a good poem.

“Myself and my husband are also very proud of her.”

Lucy also received a certificate to celebrate her achievement.

The poem will be published in the Poetry Explorers children’s anthology which will be produced in the new year.

Lucy’s brother, Joseph, had a poem published in the anthology last year.

Mrs Newell said: “We seem to have two talented children in our house.”
