Two former Bradford Chamber of Commerce staff have combined their experience of helping small businesses to launch a new support group for firms.
Local Traders is a new membership organisation offering small businesses, including tradesmen, a range of advice, information and support for a £250 subscription.
Two of its founders are former chamber officials Iain MacDonald and Lynsey Barraclough who have joined Bradford businessmen Richard Helliwell and Bob Bairstow.
Mr MacDonald and Miss Barraclough decided to apply their expertise in helping small firms after being made redundant.
The launch of their new venture was attended by the Lord of Bradford Councillor John Godward.
Services by Local Traders, in Carr Bottom Road, include a free website and e-mail, business cards, advertising and mailshots as well as information and advice on employment legislation, health and safety and a dedicated newsletter with business advice and tips.
Other services such as annual accounts, debt collection, payroll, self-assessment and company tax returns and VAT records are offered at discounted rates.
Mr MacDonald said: “We’ve established Local Traders because we feel passionately that businesses need this type of highly expert and individual help.”
Mr MacDonald was enterprise manager for Bradford Chamber, national operations manager of the Vehicle Builders and Repairers Association and managing director of the UK Trades Confederation.
Miss Barraclough, also worked for Bradford Chamber as information officer dealing with many companies and individuals needing advice on growing and marketing their businesses. She has also helped the UK Trades Confederation promote good business practice.
