The homosexual partner of a Bradford pub landlord appeared in Court today accused of his murder.
Callum Adams, 38, faced a charge at Bradford magistrates court of murdering Kevan Worrall, landlord of the Seven Stars, Harrogate Road, Greengates, on September 13 this year.
Adams – who gave his address as Stevenson Road, Balby, Doncaster – was also accused of stealing a laptop computer and mobile phone from the pub, and a separate charge of stealing more than £1,000 cash belonging to Enterprise Inns Ltd.
The balding, tattooed defendant faced two further charges of possessing cannabis and a class A drug, ecstasy.
Adams, who has a thin goatee beard and moustache, spoke to confirm his name, address and date of birth.
Wearing an open-necked grey casual top with the sleeves rolled up and jeans, he was flanked in the glass-encased dock by two security officers.
Prosecutor Mark Steeples applied for a remand in custody, which was opposed by Adams’ legal representative, Adam Walker. Mr Walker asked the Bench not to lock up an innocent man who had been “wrongfully accused”.
Adams spent much of the 90-minute hearing with his eyes closed and his hands clasped in front of him.
Senior officers from West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team and friends of both the accused and the victim sat in the public gallery.
The magistrates decided to remand Adams in custody until the next hearing and committed the case to Bradford Crown Court. Adams will next appear there on December 17.
The body of 46-year-old Mr Worrall was found in the living quarters of the pub on September 13. An initial post-mortem examination found the cause of death to be inconclusive, but a second post-mortem was ordered before the body was released for cremation.
Adams was arrested in Yeovil, Somerset, two days after Mr Worrall’s body was discovered.
