A Bradford church has unveiled a £150,000 programme of improvements that would prevent the congregation having to trek to the local school when they need the toilet.
The project, called 2 loos le trek, would see two toilets created within a new room at St Paul’s Church, Buttershaw.
A disabled access ramp would be built to the tower entrance door of the building and the new room would be created under the existing balcony at the west end of the church using a partially-glazed, removable, wooden screen.
The room would include the new toilets, including one for disabled people, and a small kitchen and serving area for tea, coffee and simple catering.
Meanwhile, there would be a sound-proof meeting room to seat up to 40 people for use by the school, other wider community meetings, Sunday School, Ladies Fellowship and St. Paul’s Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society. A total of £120,000 has been raised for the project from the church members, trusts, grant-making bodies and the wider community in Wibsey and Buttershaw.
The church has a loan provision in place for £30,000, but does not want to go into debt and is urging people to donate to the project by writing to the treasurer, Michael Bennett, at 88 Fair Road, Wibsey, Bradford, BD6 1QL.
