If you want to kick off Christmas with a difference, go along to Bingley Arts Centre this week.
For it has become the Farndale Avenue Housing Estate’s Community Hall and the Townswomen’s Guild are putting on a musical adaptation of A Christmas Carol.
It’s not easy to do a play within a play and this – The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen’s Guild Dramatic Society’s Production of A Christmas Carol – was a calamitous production by Bingley Little Theatre, but it was meant to be.
Remember those Morecambe and Wise plays what he wrote… Thelma (Sandra Chewins) and Mrs Reece (Gilly Rogers) vied for attention in the many roles they played.
Alison Main was funny as the deadpan Mercedes. She too played many roles, despite having a limp and a surgical collar following an accident with a load of supermarket trolleys.
It’s not easy to act badly on purpose, dance out of step, mess up the lighting and lines but they pulled it off.
Directed by Rosemary Grainger, the play runs until Saturday.
