Dementia experts in Bradford feature in a documentary television programme to be screened tonight.
The work of the Bradford Dementia Group at the University of Bradford is used to improve care homes in a two-part BBC2 documentary Can Gerry Robinson Fix Dementia Care Homes?.
In the programme, Sir Gerry Robinson, whose father had dementia when he died, sets out to turn around three struggling care homes.
The businessman called in head of training and practice development at Bradford Dementia Group, Paul Edwards, to work with one home.
Mr Edwards introduced the staff to Dementia Care Mapping, a specialised tool developed by his group, as a method for improving care. The care home was happy to take the advice on board, and is now a thriving business, providing a high standard of care.
Mr Edwards said: “I really enjoyed working with the home and to see the difference that a positive focus on training in person-centred care and the use of our practice development methodology can make to the standard of care people with dementia receive.”
