A teenage cadet won a Royal British Legion standard bearers’ contest in Keighley.
Lance bombardier Michael Reay, 14, of Cullingworth, came first in the event staged at Keighley Drill Hall, in Lawkholme Lane.
He was the youngest of five 14 to 16-year-olds taking part and is a member of Bingley Army Cadet unit.
Of the four other cadets, three were girls – two were from Keighley Army Cadets and two from Allerton Army Cadets.
The group had recently completed a six-week standard bearer training course, delivered by legion members George Metcalf and Gerry Simpson.
Mr Metcalf, who is county youth officer for South and West Yorkshire, said their turnout on the night had been “immaculate”.
He said their high standard of drill, bearing and dress was reflected in the fact that only three points separated first, second and third places.
