Bradford’s Labour MPs have backed calls for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza strip amid clashes between Israeli troops and Hamas.
Bradford South MP Gerry Sutcliffe, Bradford North MP Terry Rooney and Bradford West MP Marsha Singh said they had been inundated with phone calls from constituents who are concerned about the ongoing crisis.
Mr Sutcliffe said: “We have a large number of constituents from all backgrounds who are concerned about what’s going on.
“We want to support the Prime Minister’s call for an immediate ceasefire from both sides.
“We are appalled at the loss of life, particularly civilian life, and we call on the international community to put pressure on to create the ceasefire.”
Mr Sutcliffe said he was in discussions with Bill Rammell, Britain’s Foreign Office Minister for the Middle East, to find out what was being done to bring the crisis to an end.
Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets of Bradford at the weekend to protest about the situation in Gaza.
