The new Bradford International Orchestral concert season starts with the Hallé New Year Viennese concert.
St George’s Hall’s resident orchestra, the Hallé, will present its classical New Year celebration concert, featuring Viennese favourites Radetsky March, The Skater’s Waltz, Perpetuum Mobile, Johann Strauss II’s Overture to Die Fledermaus and his most enduring creation, On The Beautiful Blue Danube.
Conducting the New Year celebration is John Wilson, who was shortlisted for this year’s prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society’s Conductor’s Award. He has established an enviable reputation as a conductor, arranger and scholar, and is recognised internationally as an expert in the specialist fields of light music, jazz and music for screen, as well as a passionate advocate for British music.
This year, the celebrations will be even more special, as British soprano Emma Bell will join John Wilson and the Hallé. Emma will perform a selection of great operatic arias, including The Laughing Song from Die Fledermaus and Puccini’s eternal O Mio Babbino Caro.
The Hallé New Year Viennese Concert is at St George’s Hall on Sunday at 3pm. For tickets ring (01274) 432000.
