Health bosses have denied claims that a decision to close the Moor Lane mental health centre in Burley-in-Wharfedale has already been made.
Bradford District Care Trust, which runs the 20-bed centre, has suggested closing it down and transferring the services to Lynfield Mount psychiatric hospital in Bradford.
A consultation process is being held but some people who use the service have claimed that it is a sham because the decision to shut it down and sell off the land has already been made.
Addingham parish councillor Graham Lingard said: “The impression I have been given is that the land has already been sold.”
Campaigner Joanne Ousey, who has bipolar syndrome, said: “The consultation means nothing to us. The services at Moor Lane have continually been wound down and now there are only two beds there – which in their eyes justifies its closure.
“But it is they who have taken this facility away from us without a single thought to what we want or are going through. They are not going to take our views into consideration now.”
But Matt Neligan, director of commissioning at Bradford and Airedale Teaching Primary Care Trust, denied any decision had already been made.
He said: “The ongoing public consultation into adult mental health services across the district – which closes on January 11 – is all about getting as many views and opinions from people who use those services, people who care for those who do or members of the public with an interest in mental health.
“Each and every one of these opinions is important to us and will be carefully considered before a decision is made. This decision will only be made after we have listened to everyone’s views.
“We want to make sure that future adult mental health services meet the changing needs of the communities we serve and are modern, providing the very best care and therapy available and ensuring best value.
“In addition to public meetings already held, there will be a further event on Thursday, January 8, from 2.30pm to 4.30pm, at the Moor Lane Centre, Moor Lane, Burley-in-Wharfedale.
“We are keen to hear from as many people as possible and would ask anyone who does have a view to attend this event.”
