Regulars at a pub in Idle, Bradford, have stripped off for a nude calendar to raise money for cancer research.
Customers at The George, in Leeds Road, hope to raise thousands of pounds with the risque calendar, which will be donated to research into testicular cancer.
Taking their lead from the Woman’s Institute calendar girls, the 11 regulars of The George have sold £1,000 of the 2009 calendars, and hope to double that before they are done.
Sales manager Alan Smith, 42, has been a regular at the pub for seven years. He features in a beach scene in the month of July and also stars alongside two other regulars in November.
He said: “I have always been quite outgoing, I don’t mind doing stuff like that at all. But I would say everybody was totally up for it. I think we had one who pulled out but we just rang up one of the other lads, said we were one short, and he came straight down. It was great fun to be honest.
“We have done it for research into testicular cancer and we thought it would be a nice way to follow the way the WI did their calendar.
“I think also you find many of the people who were involved had a family member or knew someone who has had a cancer scare.”
The pub’s events organiser Tim Halliday, 27, said regulars at the pub often raised money for charity.
He said: “It’s like a male version of what the WI did, and they all have various props in front of them, some relating to the months they represent and some that don’t.
“What we would really like to raise would be about twice what we have so far – about £2,000 would be nice, but I think anything is good really.
“They are always trying to think up new ways to make fools of themselves, but all in the name of good fun and to raise money for good causes, so they are quite dedicated.”
