A popular Bradford Asian restaurant has scooped a five-stars in this year’s National Curry Awards.

Zouk tea bar and grill in Leeds Road is the only Northern restaurant to clinch a gold curry award.

It follows a three star award in last year’s competition.

Zouk owner Peter Bashir, who runs the restaurant with sons Mudassar and Tayub, said he was delighted at winning the latest accolade and the gold plaque would take pride of place in the restaurant.

The National Curry Awards take into account quality of food, cleanliness, customer service and ambience.

Mr Bashir said: “It doesn’t get better than this. Gaining five stars in the National Curry Awards is the ultimate accolade and I’m very proud of everyone who works in the business.”

Mr Bashir opened Zouk in 2006 and the business is set to expand with a £1million investment in a new restaurant in Manchester. It is also looking at setting up in Milan Italy.
