Tomorrow sees the Bronte Vintage Tractor Road Run in aid of Yorkshire Air Ambulance hit the road, when enthusiasts parade their vintage, classic and modern tractors and other ‘pride and joy’ vehicles.
If you want to take part, it costs £6 (to include refreshments for the driver), or you can just turn up to watch. Get the New Year’s Eve Party started early next Wednesday as Leeds city centre celebrates along Briggate and the Headrow from 2pm, with a variety of street entertainment, theatrical performances and crazy characters. Youngsters can enjoy a selection of fairground rides and a marching band. Then at 5.30pm there’s a fantastic fireworks finale illuminating the night sky at with a viewing area on the Headrow between Albion Street and Briggate.
There’s a craft fair at West Lane Baptist Centre in West Lane, Haworth, on Monday, from 10am to 4pm. As well as a wide range of hand-made crafts by local people there will be light refreshments in the café. Canny visitors will be able to stock up on gifts for next year. You could also enjoy a walk around Haworth village and its many attractions, which is close by.
Bracken Hall Countryside Centre at Shipley Glen invites younger members of the family to join in with lots of free environmental activities next Wednesday. The event runs from 2pm to 4pm and entry is free. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Fancy a bit of fun on New Year’s Day? Dig out a funny hat or wig and meet Jeff Brodrick at 12.30pm at the town square centre in Bingley for a 4½ mile circular walk. The Funny Hat and Wig Walk offers the chance to start the new year with a smile, but no prizes. Remember, public transport will be limited.
If your younger children have enjoyed the boxes more than their presents inside them this Christmas, why not drop in to Eureka! in Halifax for junk modelling? You can make all kinds of things using empty boxes and old wrapping paper, but don’t forget to bring your own junk! Boxing Days are on from today until next Sunday from 10am to 5pm at the Museum for Children on Discovery Road, Halifax.
Welcome in the new year at Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway when children can travel free on New Year’s Day. On Family Day, with the Happy Tank Engines, children don’t have to pay as long as they are accompanied by a fare-paying adult. You can board the train at either Embsay or Bolton Abbey stations.
