Bradford residents are being encouraged to contribute to the Great Drink Debate and help shape Government policies of how alcohol is marketed, distributed and consumed.

People can fill in a questionnaire about their drinking habits at GreatDrinkDebate.co.uk and can even compare their findings with the characters of Emmerdale.

The Great Drink Debate studied the drinking habits of 37 characters in the Yorkshire-based soap during a month of episodes and found a third were classified as ‘depressed’ drinkers and three quarters were ‘de-stress’ drinkers.

The largest proportion, 70 per cent, fell into the ‘community’ drinker category, revealing the sociable traits used to overcome their woe and despair.

Top of the list for most consumption were Donald de Souza, Andy Sugden and Shane Doyle, while Debbie Dingle had the least.

In total, 81 per cent were caught swigging ale or guzzling wine during afternoon sessions.

Characters consumed an average 17 units of alcohol during each 30 minute-long episode.
