A verdict of accidental death has been recorded following the death of a 72-year-old man who broke his hip in a fall at home.
An inquest at Bradford Coroner’s Court yesterday heard Michael Barry Davis, of Whitebeam Walk, Eccleshill, had been left with mobility problems following a stroke in 2002.
On the morning of July 10 Mr Davis fell getting out of bed and was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary where doctors found he had broken his hip.
An operation was carried out and Mr Davis initially made a good recovery. However, within 24 hours there was a rapid deterioration in his condition.
He died on July 17.
A post-mortem examination found Mr Davis died from bronchial pneumonia.
Bradford Deputy Coroner Mark Hinchliffe said the pneumonia was a consequence of Mr Davis’s immobility due to the hip fracture, which in turn was due to the fall, and therefore he was recording a verdict of accidental death.
