A woman who stabbed a man in the stomach after accusing him of rape has been jailed for five years.

Leanne Lowther, 24, attacked Shaun Tordoff outside Holme Wood Social Club, Bradford Crown Court heard.

Lowther shouted: “You raped me” and sprayed CS spray into his face before plunging a knife into him, prosecutor Gavin Howie told the court yesterday.

Mr Tordoff had wounds to his chest and loin. Surgeons at Bradford Royal Infirmary had to removed his left kidney.

Lowther was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

Her guilty pleas to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and having a bladed article were accepted by the prosecution.

Mr Howie said Lowther, of Kaycell Street, Bierley, Bradford, made the rape allegation after a party at her home.

She had drunk three bottles of vodka, a dozen Aftershocks and snorted cocaine.

A friend told her Mr Tordoff had raped her but when the police came round Lowther ordered them out, Mr Howie said.

The “friend” then denied seeing Lowther being raped.

On August 15, Lowther took the knife and confronted Mr Tordoff outside the club in Broadstone Way.

The court heard his eyes stung from the spray and he felt the blade go into his body.

In mitigation Lowther’s barrister, Ray Singh, said she genuinely believed she was raped.

Recorder of Bradford, Judge Stephen Gullick, said Lowther now accepted she should have left the rape allegation to the police.

Lowther (above) had caused serious injuries to Mr Tordoff but was genuinely remorseful.

After the case, Detective Inspector Gerry O’Shea, said: “This was a violent attack which caused life-threatening injuries.”
