School grounds have been transformed by a hardworking team of staff from the Yorkshire Building Society.
Twenty-three members of staff who work at the firm’s head office in Rooley Lane, Bradford, donned overalls and created 16 plots for pupils to grow their own fruit and vegetables at Swain House Primary in Bradford.
The team donated and planted an orchard tree, getting through around 180 cups of tea and coffee as they shifted more than 18 tonnes of soil and around 200 railway sleepers.
They were working as part of the building society’s voluntary programme, Actionteering, contributing to the school’s project to turn under-used areas of the school grounds into learning zones.
Joanne Harris, who led the team of volunteers, said: “We’re delighted to have helped Swain House Primary by transforming its outdoor areas. The children are keen to get started.”
