Visit Santa in his grotto and have a ride on the oldest working tramway in Britain.

Shipley Glen Tramway dates back to 1895 and was built to show off the natural beauty of the Glen. At nearly a quarter-mile in length, the woodland ride offers a great alternative to the steep path.

The trams will be running from noon to 4pm today and tomorrow.

Step back in time at Bolling Hall tomorrow with the Midwinter Medieval Celebration, from noon to 4pm. You can take part in a sugar mice or herb bag-making workshop, and hear Elizabethan music from the Leeds Waits and Bradford Festival Choral Society. As well as a chance to sample traditional midwinter fare, you can see traditional plays, spinners and weavers.

Take an hour off from shopping, wrapping or cooking and join the choir at Bradford Cathedral to sing your favourite carols on Christmas Eve. The Christmas carols recital is from 1pm to 2pm, but you’ll need to be prompt as this is the Cathedral’s largest Christmas event and there’s standing room only for latecomers.

There’s a special screening tomorrow of one of the most popular Christmas films of all time – It’s A Wonderful Life. This is a film that is guaranteed to give you a warm feeling, and you can enjoy it with mulled wine and mince pies at the Bradford Playhouse. What’s more, the Playhouse is inviting you to tell them which other film classics you would like to see. The evening starts at 8pm Every Saturday and Sunday in December, kids go free at the Bronte Parsonage Museum. All those under 16, accompanied by a full-paying adult can visit the museum completely free of charge. You can enjoy the museum’s traditional holly and ivy festive decorations and there’s also a free children’s guide to the museum as well.

Tomorrow is your last chance to visit the Christkindelmarkt, the German Christmas Market in Millennium Square, Leeds. One of the largest and best-established German Christmas markets in the UK, it’s the ideal way to chase away those winter chills. It’s open from 10.30am to 8pm.

Take the whole family to a Christmas Carol concert on the village green at Hunsworth, near Cleckheaton, with a visit from Santa, side stalls, hot dogs, mulled wine and a tombola. Santa will be there tomorrow from 3.30pm to 5.30pm.

The Salvation Army Carol Spectacular takes place tomorrow. Featuring bands and choirs and the Tin Pan Alley steel band from Garforth Community College, the event is on at Leeds Town Hall, with doors opening at 2.30pm. Santa’s at Swinton Park, Masham, near Ripon, on Tuesday. This annual event is always popular with families, and this year promises to be more fun than ever with treasure hunts, Santa’s grotto, a walk in the beautiful grounds and refreshments. Tickets are £5 per child, and the event runs from 11am to 4pm.

You can meet Santa on his magical train on the Wensleydale Railway. He’s got a present for every child, mulled wine and a mince pie for adults. Trains run until Christmas Eve. There is also a guided walk programme every day over the holidays, called The Twelve Walks Of Christmas. Again, there will be mulled wine and mince pies on the train – no booking required.
