Two teenagers followed a youngster off a bus and assaulted him, a court heard yesterday.

Daniel Grant, of Windy Grove, Wilsden, and Jamie McCluskey, of Canterbury Avenue, Bradford, who are both 19, had pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm.

Both had denied robbery and student McCluskey, a Bradford College football captain, was found not guilty. Grant was convicted.

The court heard that Jamie Russell, was punched, knocked to the ground and kicked in the head, near City Hall in April and his phone was stolen. He was concussed. Sentencing Grant, at Leeds Crown Court, to two years detention, Judge Scott Wolstenholme said it was a joint attack at night on a vulnerable victim. The judge told McCluskey, who had no previous convictions: “It was a nasty, unpleasant offence.”

Imposing a community order with supervision for 18 months and 100 hours unpaid work, Judge Wolstenholme said: “If you are in trouble like this again you can expect a very lengthy sentence.” He was ordered to pay £100 to the victim.
