Four disused cemetery chapels in the Spen Valley could be brought back into use.
Kirklees Council is testing the market with regard to the chapels, one each in Cleckheaton and Liversedge and two at Heckmondwike Cemetery.
They are all in serious states of disrepair and it is estimated they could cost between £1 million and £2 million simply to be made watertight.
Suggestions for the buildings, include office or creative industry space for Cleckheaton, commercial use for Heckmondwike, and residential use for Liversedge.
Councillor David Hall, cabinet member for bereavement services, said: “Sums of that magnitude do not represent a particularly good investment. So, we have been discussing with colleagues in planning what uses might be acceptable for possible future uses in terms of the individual buildings.
“We have a lot of creative designers and thinkers in Kirklees, and want to test the water to see if there is any interest from people or companies to put ideas forward for keeping these special and historic buildings, and giving them a new lease of life.”
