More than £1 million has been spent refurbishing run-down bedsits into sheltered housing.

Social landlord Incommunities has transformed the two-storey Northcliffe View in Windhill, Shipley, to create 14 one-bedroom and five two-bedroom flats.

Each has been fitted with a new kitchen and bathrooms, fully rewired and decorated. Further improvements have included a bright new makeover for the communal lounge for residents and fitting out a hair salon.

The £1.2 million renovation was carried out by Wates Living Space, one of Incommunities’ regeneration partners.

In the grounds, a team from Wates created a barbecue and sun lounge area as a thank-you to residents for their support during the work.

James Healy, director of Incommunities’ Shipley office, said: “Incommunities and our partners Wates Living Space worked closely together to make sure these major improvements at Northcliffe went as smoothly as possible.

“This included temporarily re-housing tenants to enable all the work to be carried out and I would like to say a big thank you to them for their support.

“These improvements show our commitments to improve more and more of our customers’ homes to bring them up to the Bradford Standard, a level over and above the Government’s Decent Homes Standard.”

Shakil Murtaza, of Wates Living Space, said: “We hope the residents enjoy living in their new homes for many years to come.

“The completion of this development continues our successful partnership with Incommunities and we look forward to working on further projects with them.”

Dennis Thompson, who has lived at the complex for more than ten years, said: “The workmen have done a terrific job and Incommunities staff have been very helpful.

“My flat looks lovely, particularly with a new kitchen and bathroom. It was nice to be given a choice of fittings and colour schemes.

“It really makes the place feel like your home.”
