National brass band champions Black Dyke will perform to raise money to help soldiers wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Queensbury band, this month crowned Champion Band of Great Britain for the 21st time, will appear at Bingley Airedale Rotary Club’s charity concert for the 12th year running on Saturday, November 15.
This year the club’s president, Sandy Cameron, a consultant physician at Leeds General Infirmary, has nominated forces charity Help for Heroes, as he was appalled at the lack of medical facilities for injured soldiers.
Mr Cameron said: “I’ve been extremely distressed to hear about the grossly inadequate medical help available for our servicemen and women.
“The lives of many of these courageous men and women may not be the same again but they want, and deserve, to make them as normal as possible.”
Two Bradford soldiers have been treated at Headley Court defence medical rehabilitation centre in Surrey, in the past two years.
Private Carl Clowes, of Bradford (pictured), was 21 when he had to have his lower left leg amputated after a land mine blast in Afghanistan. Royal Marine Steven Spiwak, of Den-holme, was also 21 when he was shot storming a Taliban fortress.
The concert is at 7.30pm at Bradford Grammar School and will also support the Yorkshire Youth Brass Band.
Tickets cost £10 for adults, £5 for students and under-18s, with ten per cent off for groups of more than ten. Call Mike Webber on (01274) 551124 or John Hagerty on (01274) 511578 or e-mail john.p.hagerty@btinternet.com.
