A BRADFORD man who gave police false details for speeding offences was caught out by his own mobile phone.
Omar Akam, 29, was sent to prison for 12 months at Bradford Crown Court on Monday.
He was also disqualified from driving for 18 months.
Akam, of Wilkinson Terrace in Lidget Green, provided false details to officers after he received two Notices of Intended Prosecution for speeding offences committed on the M62 in June 2022.
Analysis of his mobile phone data showed he was in the area on both occasions.
Akam was charged with committing acts to pervert the course of justice.
He appeared before Bradford Crown Court on October 10 where he pleaded guilty to both offences.
Speaking after the sentencing, Rachel Wainwright of West Yorkshire Police’s Casualty and Prosecutions Unit, said: “Akam had the opportunity to deal with these offences in the correct manner, but instead chose to provide false information.
“Perverting the course of justice is a serious offence and we will always look to prosecute those who attempt to evade penalties for these matters.”
