LNER has recommended to its passengers looking to travel over the Christmas period that they plan ahead and reserve a seat.

The train company, which operates direct services between Bradford Forster Square and London, said that the "most popular days for travelling across the festive period" are expected to be Saturday, December 21 and Friday, December 27.

Colette Casey of LNER said: "The Christmas period is an exciting time for LNER and our customers.

"Our plans in place for the festive period mean that our customers can travel with confidence and have some festive fun along the way.

"We’re looking forward to welcoming customers, both those who’ve travelled with us before and those joining us for the first time at this special time of year."

From December 11, menus will have a festive feel, with food and drink sourced from local suppliers.

For first-class customers, the menu will include a vegetarian chestnut and stuffing 'sausage' roll paired with Christmas ketchup, and overnight oats with orange and cranberries.

A cheese and Christmas slaw sandwich will also be available, as well as a chocolate and hazelnut dessert pot for afters.

From December 20, there will be Christmas activity packs for children available on board LNER trains, complete with puzzles, stickers, and games.
