TV CHEF Jamie Oliver made a surprise visit to Bradford in 2010.

He visited the Ministry of Food in John Street to check on the progress of the project that he pioneered in 2008, and to congratulate the staff for their hard work.

The Bradford branch of the national initiative was a place where people could find jobs in the food industry, learn how to cook at home and get a start in cooking for the first time through school visits. It closed in 2018 after eight years of operation due to council budget cuts. The final sessions at the centre ended with a party to celebrate the achievements made by the team. The project went on to partner with Inn Churches in Bradford, and still does so today. Today the Ministry of Food is the largest community cooking programme in the UK, working with councils, charities and other partners across the UK, Australia and beyond who deliver the programme in their local areas. Jamie’s goal is to teach one million people by 2030.
