A grant of £180,000 has been awarded to researchers at Bradford Institute for Health Research (BIHR).
The funding will support up to nine nurses, midwives, and allied health professionals (AHPs) in Yorkshire and the Humber to improve their research skills and knowledge.
The funding will enable benefiting staff to engage in part-time placements in the Patient Safety Research Collaboration (PSRC), to develop funding applications to the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), with a view to then undertaking research at pre-doctoral, doctoral, or post-doctoral level.
Staff will receive "expert supervision and mentorship" while developing their applications.
Professor Beth Fylan, deputy director of the PSRC, said: "This funding allows us to provide the time and mentorship that clinicians need to begin their research and to aim high in applying for a prestigious NIHR development award."
The grant represents an opportunity for under-represented groups and specialisms to be involved in and lead NHS research, explained a spokesperson.
