HAIRSPRAY the Musical has let off a sequin and dopamine-fuelled explosion at Bradford’s Alhambra Theatre.

The entire show operates on rocket fuel with the talented cast unleashing high-energy tunes, dancing and perfectly timed delivery on stage.

Anyone who goes to see this show is in store for mind-boggling levels of fun.

The tale begins with Tracy Turnblad who has goals of one day making it big on her favourite teen dance show. But it soon becomes more than that after meeting some black students at her school.

She begins to push for more racial integration on the dance show and joins a fight against spiteful bullies, segregation, and judgemental society in 1960s Baltimore.

The unique and wonderful Tracy - played by Katie Brace - kicked off the show’s magic ability to hypnotise the audience.

The cast weaves a web of beautiful chaos - taking your emotions anywhere from teenage nostalgia to heartfelt reflection.

Before I knew it I was completely captivated by the characters and left with a smile on my face.

Neil Hurst’s portrayal of the sassy and curvaceous Edna Turnblad was a thrill to watch.

When you paired that with the comedic chemistry Neil shares with Dermot Canavan, who plays Edna’s husband, Wilbur, the joy was out of this world.

The Von Tussles - station manager Velma and her daughter Amber - were brought to life perfectly with the actresses’ lusty and powerful voices.

Like a boomerang pinging from the stage to the stalls, their voices were meaningful and reached every part of my soul.

I felt close to tears when Michelle Ngedwa, who plays Motormouth Maybelle, stepped to the front of the stage for her ballad.

Katlo, who plays Tracy's friend Little Inez, has a voice that glimmers around every inch of the theatre like light from a disco ball.

And that’s the thing about this cast in this show - at some point or another, I realised, they were just like Tracy Turnblad. And aren't we all?

All of the highly gifted and skilled performers are living out their dreams and it shows.

This includes the band who play above the cast like gods residing in a twinkling, modernist heaven with stage lights.

Hairspray has a message for us all - that when you dare to dream, anything is possible.
