A PROFESSIONAL boxer will deliver self-defence lessons to women at the University of Bradford.
The university's Social Justice Society is holding a series of events between 10am and 4pm on Friday in support of the United Nations' 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign.
This campaign starts today - which is International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women - and ends on December 10, Human Rights Day.
As part of Friday's events organised by the university's Social Justice Society, Bradford-born boxing champion Tasif Khan will give a talk on his successes and lead a session on self-defence for women.
Dr Ikram Butt, who made history as the first British Asian to represent England in either code of rugby in the 1990s, will also speak about his passion for helping to end violence against women and girls (VAWG).
The events are being organised by the university's Social Justice Society president Samea Mahboob and her team, and assistant professors of social work Gill Kirkman and Brian Mitchell.
Samea said: "We are wanting to bring this current pandemic of an issue (VAWG) to the attention of students and to provide information and interactive sessions."
