Murder probe launched after death of Bradford man in York

Numerous police vehicles swooped on Vyner Street, at its junction with Haxby Road, at around 7.20pm on Saturday following reports of an incident.

The air ambulance is also said to have landed near the scene, according to reports.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said three people had suffered injuries and the two men and one woman were treated at the scene by medics.

The spokesperson said: "One of the men, who was in his 20s from the Bradford area, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Sadly, he died in hospital yesterday (Saturday) evening.

"The other man is currently receiving hospital treatment and is in a stable condition."

A murder investigation has been launched by police with crime scene investigation officers at the scene.

A police cordon was in place at one end of the road earlier on Sunday but it is understood it was later lifted.

Residents were reportedly asked by police not to leave their homes or look out of windows whilst the incident was ongoing on Saturday night. 

One resident, who lives close to the scene, said that she had watched the drama through her curtains but was told to look away.

The road is currently closed to traffic (Image: Alice Kavanagh) On Sunday, the street was still unsettled with some cars moved whilst police investigations took place. 

One resident said: “Everything was all lit up with the air ambulance and emergency services last night. So much was going on, it's awful. I'll just be happy when it's sorted out and the police are gone."

Another resident said: “I just heard the helicopter flying really low, it landed in Clarence Gardens, then ambulances and police cars going past my window. It's really shocking - something you don't ever expect to see on your doorstep." 

A woman who lives further down the road added: “Generally it's a quiet street - it's just a real shock for all of us to see all of this."
