TEAMS from the fire service were called out to Calderdale today to help clear roads affected by flooding after heavy rain and rapid snow melt on Saturday.
The Environment Agency issued flood warnings and alerts yesterday afternoon to places in Calderdale as the River Calder burst its banks.
The fire service were called out today (Sunday) to parts of Calderdale, including Hebden Bridge and Todmorden, to help clear flooding on roads.
In a statement issued today, a spokesperson for the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "The fire service is working with Calderdale Council to clear roads following flooding."
In a post on X, the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We're in Hebden Bridge this afternoon, working with our partners and using our High Volume Pump to help clear flooding."
They are signposted to their website at westyorksfire.gov.uk/safety/flood-awareness to give residents flood awareness advice.
On their website, the WYFRS wrote: "Millions of people in the UK live and work in areas at risk from flooding.
"It’s important that you know the risk of flooding in your area, prepare where necessary & act safely if flooding occurs.
"In both 2019 and 2020, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service worked in response to flooding in the Calder Valley and Wharfe Valley areas, as well as supporting South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue with the response to widespread flooding in November 2020."
